Next Laser Scanning Boom Market — May 2014

What is the next big digital boom market? Today’s buzz words are virtual reality (VR) and immersion.

Bottom Line: Laser scanning printers started the desk publishing revolution. 3D Laser scanning created the current Makers Movement.  Laser scanning apparatus with projection and camera provides the streamlined solution for virtual reality and immersion.

Laser projector/sensors (camera) device is the impetus for the convergence revolution. HIVE/E/E: holographic immersive virtual environments/ engine/ edutainment (tool chest for content creation/ performance/backset staging, etc.)

  • Laser scanning printer:  desk top publishing revolution (1980’s)
  • Laser 3D scanner:  Makers Movement (2010)
  • Laser apparatus scanning projector/ camera (sensors): HIVE convergence revolution (2014) — (Troyer patented process)

My patented process produces the best pictures, but also is a missing link for immersive virtual reality – no helmet or glasses needed. Small Pico laser projectors, suitcase for home, gaming, medical, instrumentation to big screens (domes, signage and staging for extravaganzas).  Laser imaging creates the most exciting theme venues with best pictures and special effects.

Z-Case:  This might well be the next big market for mobile device after smart phone and tablet.  My patents cover the fast set up mobile suitcase –I call the Z-Case. The Z-Case has HIVE tools such as Kinect, 3D scanners and depth sensors. The tool set allows the copying of art work and creating designs in HIVE settings. The Z-Case can be used for HIVE settings in the home, industry, lab, hospital or for command and control on the ground, etc.  The imaging is vivid and dimensional on the pop up large screen.

Lasers instead of film: I preached to the studio cinema and theme park industry since the late 1990’s that lasers make the best images and soon digital cinema will replace arc lamps with lasers. At that time laser printers were proving that laser scanning produced by far better imaging for publishing.

Lasers best 3D images—not dull and blurry: Today the global cinemas have mostly transferred from film to digital arc lamp projection.  Now the industry is declaring that lasers produce much brighter better images, especially with 3D.  It has been proven that laser scanning done the right way improves contrast/ resolution/ color spectrum/ vividly/heat mitigation and eliminates artifacts (no ghosting or blurriness).

IMAX Digital Domes demonstration:  In 2000 the Troyer team demonstrated the patent pending Metatron laser projector digital images on the IMAX dome in San Jose, California.  The clients stood up, screaming, almost not believing what they saw – smooth digital amplified images (no pixel artifacts) adjusting to the screen.  The boxers were hovering in space.

Zuddites: It takes a great saga to explain how the Zuddites (modern Luddites) have actually kept this technology from being installed and commercialized.  Now other countries are taking advantage and attempting to devise laser projector replicas.

IF IT IS: Laser projection and camera creates these attribute of IF IT IS— infinite focus, instant transfer, innately sharp images— ability to adjust to curved screen – automatically, in real time, with no computer manipulation.

Situation Awareness: Laser scanning imaging ability is enhanced with camera (sensors). The Kinect is a camera/ sensor example. The sensor provides situation awareness feedback. No glasses or helmet are needed to play the game.

Tango (Motorola) depth sensors and 3D scanners: captured images (participant or space) can be instantly viewed on a curved screen — much more dimensional than on a flat screen. Capture 3D depth multi views and combine for true real time dimensional imaging – thus creating a KISS stream lined holographic type image.

Modular?  A good lab and a few months:  the Z-Case can be delivered for assembly.  Maybe there might be a modular version?  Those creating games and special effects and content will want the hyped version with VFX tools and specialized graphics.  The Z- Case for immersive simulation and training and gaming will be more focused on participant situation awareness and creating realistic HIVE realties (staging/ sets/ performance).

Avatar and developers: Maybe we should use the Kick Starter model and have developers sign for a kit.  MetatronZ screens will be a hit because so far no one has delivered adequate auto-stereo images effectively. There will be so many wonderful apps with this missing link technology. Think Karaoke in a club.  The Z-Case’s pop-up curved screen can be used as a green screen with the performer standing in front. The 3D camera captures the participant. The projection is the performer singing placed in the world she has chosen / or created. The 3D depth scanner captured performer is dimensional in her/ his world. Or maybe the performer is interacting with a chosen cartoon character. Or the performer is transformed to an Avatar and has to navigate in a strange space. Karaoke becomes a performance and a group game at the same time.

History: Symbol was working on a small laser projector. I was introduced to the person in charge– Rob Whittle.  I shared how my patented approach could solve their problems– More brightness/ eye safe/ more auto stereo effect.

Motorola purchased Symbol. My NDA was transferred to Motorola.  Corporate was very interested in the laser apparatus –projector camera patents.  We did not finish a transaction.  Motorola was busy negotiating the deal to be purchased by Google.

Troyer patented design is laser projector/camera (sensors): how much licensing funds did Kodak get for their phone and camera patents?  Did Apple and Blackberry finally pay their fines?

Troyer patent claims: laser projector/ camera: full color spectrum (red over 635 nm) and lasers directed to and modulated by a reflective light valve (DLP, LCoS, MEMS, OLED, LED or any to be invented).  Another aspect is adding cyan (blue green) for better color balance.

Secret Sauce: Sony and Christies:  Both companies have articles written about them finding the “secret sauce” –for best colors, whites and blacks and suppression with speckle with laser projectors. The sauce is adding other wave lengths in blue and green other than the basic RGB.  If they had read my patent, there is a long explanation why this is imperative in laser projection.

Laser projector technology has not been utilized in this country because of Zuddite interference.  Dubai and Korea have set up extravaganza dome theatrical venues creating dimensional examples of how laser projection special effects. Dome screens can be water, fog, particle, or other volume designs. Dome screens can also be the same material as used in cinemas.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_lMDI52ytsc Dubai dome screens.  The images could be better, but the effect of immersive 7D is shown with a dome screen. The MetatronZ provides the best images available (contrast, resolution). A feature such as Avatar or a basketball game (any feed) is transformed to vivid full color dimensional images that automatically adjust to the dome/ Cinerama screen.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuFSsS3DH6M&feature=youtu.be  This is called the Korean Wave.  They state the cinema halls have curved screens. The special effects are laser (backgrounds). The people performing are probably the Pepper Ghost effect used in other venues.

Cirque du Soleil would be most excited to have the opportunity to use the MetatronZ laser projector and HIVE platforms to further their performances.

Rock of Rio:  The MGM Resorts, Ron Burkle (Yucaipa) and Rock of Rio are placing a permanent music concert hall space and themed venues in 33 acres in Las Vegas.  Planned is the Rock of Rio concert in May 2015. Las Vegas must utilize laser projection and laser special effects to be top of the line with visual performances. A permanent Rock of Rio LBE (location based entertainment) is a great focus. HIVE platforms can create exciting themed venues and specialized dome stages that can be leased globally and be ready for installations for the Brazilian Olympics.

Bellagio Water Fountains: Imagine laser colored images on the Bellagio water fountains in Las Vegas and water screens globally. Imagine the great white buffalo in the sky.  The Indian myths say that peace will come to earth when the white buffalo is in the sky.

Iron Maiden Music Tour Proposal:  This describes laser projector staging for the Iron Maidens. The costs still pretty much hold true today (listed in the last page). http://www.slideshare.net/metatroy/metaztron-music-tour-example-iron-maidens

Themed Edutainment Venues: Check out the MetaStation dome train ride. Also the venues suggested for Canada Niagara Falls. http://www.slideshare.net/metatroy/diane-troyer-ztv-themed-entertainment-gallary2010

Evolution of the Metatron Laser Projector video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8yCTJQirAv8       The lasers are turned way down in the small room. See how the images are in focus in the corners. See how the engineer can stare into the lens (eye safe). Lexel gas lasers were designed for the projector. The vendor parts have evolved in the past years and are COTS (off the shelf). The design is based on open architecture so that parts can be replaced and upgraded.
